December 23, 2009

Ella is a smart little girl, although we have learned that she is very manipulative. She speaks so fluently in Chinese, Mia was not like this. Ella talks to the drivers, people taking our order at restaurants, and the mall people. Our guide Teresa, who has turned out to be so wonderful, has had many conversations with Ella. Today Teresa looked at me and said maybe Ella talks too much. I said "you think?" Honestly she never stops talking!

She has a place where she stashes her food in the room. We noticed that she kept having food in her mouth and neither one of us had given it to her. We just sat back, watched, and we discovered her stash. We just let her be. It's a great collection of snacks and we want her to know she will always have food in our family!

We have been trying to learnd little phrases in Chinese so when we leave here we can communicate somewhat! When she gets to Leicester, NC., she will be a hoot.

I asked Teresa why so many stores sell the same thing vendor after vendor and store after store. She said that it's a loyalty thing. You make good friends and you become part of their family. They take you in and you are in for good. That's how it is here with everything.

Ella keep calling Teresa "sister". Teresa said that that is common here. If they have a friend that is bigger than they are, they call them sister or brother. INTERESTING!!!

We went to the zoo today. Says it's the biggest zoo in China. I will send pictures later. AFterward we went to a pizza place and it was pretty good. They had to measure Mia by a stick to see how much we have to pay for her. So funny!
